tips & info
Want to rev up your metabolism and burn more calories at rest? Resistance Training is the key! Muscle burns more calories than fat. So, even while you’re sleeping you are burning more calories!...Muscle also takes up quite a bit less space, helping you lose inches and achieve a toned look!

Heart health begins with cardiorespiratory training. As your cardio capacity is improved, your resting heart rate decreases, and your stroke volume, which is the amount of blood the heart ejects in one beat, increases. This in turn is less wear and tear on your heart, as it is not having to beat as often, or as hard.

Did you know that it only takes 100 too many calories each day to gain 10 pounds in a year? That’s an extra measly 10 small crackers, 1 slice of whole grain bread, or 11 nachos a day! Calories add up fast, so be careful to not mindlessly eat. Times that people often don’t pay attention are when sitting watching tv, when stressed at home or work, and when sitting or standing around the food table at a party.

THAT said… make sure you don’t slash a drastic amount of calories each day, as this will slow your metabolism. Your body is protecting itself as it’s not sure when it will be nourished again.

Instead of eating as soon as you’re hungry, drink a glass of water first. People often mistake thirst for hunger & then overeat.

Fat free is another way of saying nutrient free, and is not usually a valuable food choice. When fat is taken out of a food, manufacturers usually replace it with large amounts sugar, salt or some other substance to enhance the taste. People tend to eat more of the food when it’s labeled “low fat” or “fat free”…just because there’s no fat! Given the fact that the fat free version sometimes contains more calories than the regular, you can see how the weight can creep on!
Eating the right fats in moderation is the key. Your body needs some healthy fats to absorb nutrients, produce hormones and help you feel full longer, therefore avoiding overeating.

Stress can make you fat! The brain signals the adrenal glands to secrete the hormone cortisol, which signals the release of glucose and fatty acids into the blood stream. Very high cortisol levels lead to increase appetite and fat deposits on abdomen. People also tend to eat more when they’re stressed, which only compounds the problem!
